Invitation to Attend the
Eighth Plenary Meeting of INCITS V2 -
Information Technology Access Interfaces

INCITS (the InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards) V2 - Information Technology Access Interfaces Technical Committee ( http://www.incits.org/tc_home/v2.htm ) invites anyone interested to participate in its eighth plenary meeting, June 27 and 28, 2002. Please register for this meeting at http://www.nist.gov/ncits/ .

The eighth plenary meeting of INCITS/V2 will meet on Thursday and Friday, June 27 and 28, 2002, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (CT) at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis Hotel , Minneapolis, Minnesota in Lake Superior Room A, on the 5th floor..

The Committee invites you to participate in its continuing work on standards for an Alternative Interface Access Protocol (AIAP).  This communication protocol would complement and build on industry activity in home networking, wireless networking, and metadata registries for discovery and interoperation of intelligent devices.  The aim is to make it easy to fulfill the alternate interface connection needs of people with disabilities that is called for in recent government regulations. The Alternative Interface Access Protocol and related standards will ensure IT products are more accommodating of the needs and preferences of the consumer by allowing for alternative interfaces.  While addressing the special needs of people with disabilities, the option to change interfaces will have a broader market application.

Anyone interested in contributing to the future directions in the marriage of assistive technology and information technology may find this 2 day working meeting of interest.  V2 is particularly seeking individuals experienced with work and home task analysis, and with folks with experience in the application of information technology to supporting people with disabilities in all kinds of environments.

For more information on the INCITS/V2 committee, please visit our Website at http://www.incits.org/tc_home/v2.htm .  For information on membership in INCITS/V2, contact INFO-V2@NIST.GOV .  For information on INCITS membership, contact Kate McMillan (phone: 202-626-5742 or email: kmcmillan@itic.org ).

Requests to participate by teleconference will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  Contact  INFO-V2@NIST.GOV by June 17, 2002, for information on teleconference availability.

For the convenience of those attending INCITS/V2, this meeting is collocated with the RESNA "25th International Conference on Technology & Disability: Research, Design, Practice" being held in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 27 to July 1, 2002. See http://www.resna.org/conferences/ for more information on the RESNA conference.  NOTE: the early registration discount ends on May 27, 2002.
