There are three reasons for the retransmission of this announcement of the upcoming INCITS/V2 meeting:
  • the room has been changed for the first two days of the meeting (see below),
  • the agenda has been finalized for the "Metadata Workshop" on Monday and Tuesday, September 30 and October 1 (see attached Workshop Agenda),
  • and the "Schedule" of the Plenary agenda has been modified to reflect V2 member presentations at the NIST Pervasive Computing Conference , and other scheduled V2 presentations (see attached V2 Agenda).

Invitation to Attend the
Ninth Plenary Meeting of INCITS V2 -
Information Technology Access Interfaces

INCITS (the InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards) V2 - Information Technology Access Interfaces Standards Development Technical Committee (http://www.incits.org/tc_home/v2.htm ) invites anyone interested to participate in its ninth plenary meeting, September 30 through October 4, 2002. Please register for this meeting at http://www.nist.gov/ncits/ .

The ninth plenary meeting of INCITS V2 will convene Monday, September 30 through Friday, October 4, 2002, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (ET) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology , Gaithersburg, MD in Lecture Room F, Administration Building 101, Basement (all five days, Monday through Friday).

The Committee invites you to participate in its continuing work on standards for an Alternative Interface Access Protocol (AIAP).  This communication protocol would complement and build on industry activity in home networking, wireless networking, and metadata registries for discovery and interoperation of intelligent devices.  The aim is to make it easy to fulfill the alternate interface connection needs of people with disabilities that is called for in recent government regulations. The Alternative Interface Access Protocol and related standards will ensure IT products are more accommodating of the needs and preferences of the consumer by allowing for alternative interfaces.  While addressing the special needs of people with disabilities, the option to change interfaces will have a broader market application.

Anyone interested in contributing to the future directions in the marriage of assistive technology, information technology, human computer interaction and pervasive computing may find this 5 day working meeting of interest.  V2 is particularly seeking individuals experienced with all aspects on wireless communications, particularly security, and those experienced in the development of use case modeling and of user scenarios.

For more information on the INCITS V2 committee, please visit our Website at http://www.incits.org/tc_home/v2.htm .  For information on membership in INCITS V2, contact INFO-V2@NIST.GOV .  For information on INCITS Executive Board membership, contact Kate McMillan (phone: 202-626-5742 or email: kmcmillan@itic.org ).

For information about this meeting, the venue, and to register see the INCITS V2 meeting Website at: http://www.nist.gov/ncits/ .  If you have a disability, any special needs, accommodations needs or other requirements, so indicate when you register or call Charles Sheppard at 301-975-3269  as soon as possible.

Requests to participate by teleconference will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  Contact or call Charles Sheppard at 301-975-3269 by no later than NOON (EDT), Friday, September 27, 2002, for information on teleconference availability.

For the convenience of those attending INCITS V2, this meeting is being held in conjunction with the 2002 NIST Pervasive Computing Conference, October 1 and 2, 2002, see <http://www.nist.gov/pc2002/ >.  V2 attendees will be able to attend sessions on Tuesday afternoon, October 1, during which our colleagues from IBM, the AFB, and the Trace R & D Center will be making presentations (see the schedule at the end of the attaced agenda).

See our registration web site at < http://www.nist.gov/ncits/ > for the preliminary INCITS V2 Plenary agenda, information on the meeting venue (directions, housing, etc.), and to register. NOTE: while INCITS V2 meetings are considered open to the public, for security reasons, anyone attending this meeting at NIST MUST preregister or access to the facility may be denied.

Attached is a draft agenda for the meeting (Ref:  V2/02-0052 ). Suggestions for additions and changes are welcome.  Contact INFO-V2@NIST.GOV .

V2 members are reminded to check the private V2 master list of open and closed issues ( http://www.itl.nist.gov/twiki/bin/view/NCITSV2/MasterListOfOpenAndClosedIssues ) and to be prepared to provide comments.
