W1.1:  Image Quality of Printers
List of Attributes Governing Image Quality


 A list of visual attributes has been proposed as a model for the work of the committee W1.1 in its characterization of the image quality of printers.  This list is a working draft that will be used as a starting point for the standards development of the committee.

1.  Text and Line Quality

Horizontal and vertical lines of single color and multiple color layers  as a function of angles and uniformity.  Horizontal and vertical black  text, color text and halftoned text for uniformity, stroke placement,  Serif erosion, etc.
2.  Micro Uniformity
Non uniformities visible through a circular aperture of 6 mm in  diameter for Isolated color solids and halftone patches
3.  Macro Uniformity
 Non uniformities in large isolated areas of black or color solids and  halftone patches, or halftone patches adjacent to colored solids.
4.  Gloss / Gloss Uniformity
Variation within patches of constant color or areas of variable content
5.  Color Rendition
Tone reproduction, memory colors, accuracy of specified colors, gamut  of colors produceable.
6.  Effective Tone Levels
Tone scale, contouring
7.  Effective Resolution In Pictorials
Sharpness, detail visibility, distortion
8.  Adjacency
Interfaces between butted solids or halftone areas, enhancements,  inter color bleed, edge deletion, halo, etc.
