Card Durability Test Methods Standard Being Revised

The Card Durability Test Methods standard, INCITS 322-202x is being revised. This revision process will review, update and improve the card service life testing methods based on experience since approval of the 2015 edition.

This American National Standard describes test methods for the evaluation of Identification (ID) card durability used by card issuers, card manufacturers and card component suppliers to make comparisons of ID card performance. While these test methods do not imply a specific correlation to end use field performance or a given card service life, they may be useful for ranking or comparing the relative durability of ID cards.

Durability of cards is not established in INCITS 322-202x and the recommended durability categories and requirements can be found in the INCITS 440-202x, Card Durability / Service Life, companion standard also under revision to update the accuracy of and improve card use models based on experience since approval of the 2015 edition.
