Extensible 3D suite of standards under revision

Become a member of the technical committee that represents the U.S. within the standards processing realm for computer graphics and image processing, ...one of the core technology’s when it comes to computer graphics, graphical data exchange, augmented and virtual reality, computer imaging, and satellite imagery.

The INCITS/Graphics and Imaging technical committees main focus areas are computer graphics, image processing, virtual/augmented/mixed reality, environmental data representation, visualization of information, and interaction of information.  This technical committee provides a forum for commercial, academia, and government producers/consumers of computer graphics, image processing, VR/AR/MR, and system visualization technologies to define and participate in US and International standards development within the domain.

One of the hot projects within this technical committee’s program of work is the ISO/IEC 19775 series on Information technology - Computer graphics, image processing and environmental data representation - Extensible 3D (X3D).  This three-part standard, cooperatively developed with the Web3D Consortium, constitutes a major upgrade to X3D and integrates network-enabled 3D graphics and multimedia.  X3D 4.0 is in final stages of standardization review, with new capabilities added for HTML5, glTF, and Web Audio, while retaining stable backwards compatibility all the way to Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML97).

In addition, the completed work on standardizing ISO/IEC 19774 series Humanoid Animation (HAnim2) standard is leading to significant new work on data and applications for medicine and apparel.

Come join other organizations and experts in the creation, development, and advancement of projects and standards within the world of Graphics and Imaging!

INCITS/Graphics and Imaging is the U.S. TAG to ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 24, with an area of work includes the standardization of functional specifications, APIs, and interchange/encoding supporting the representation, presentation, and exchange of graphical and image data. Application areas include image capture, markup, and processing; visualization and interaction with 2D/3D graphical systems; synthetic environments coding and representation (e.g., modelling and simulation, smart cities, digital twins); and augmented, virtual, and mixed reality.
