NCITS Announces the Public Comment Period for the Reaffirmation of X3.220:1992, 130 mm Optical Disk Cartridges of the Write-Once, Read Multiple (WORM) Type, Using the Magnetic-Optical Effect

Washington D.C., November 1997 - NCITS (National Committee for Information Technology Standards) is announcing the public comment period for X3.220:1992. The public review extends from November 7, 1997 to January 6, 1998.

This standard specifies the characteristics of 130-mm optical disk cartridges (ODC) of the Write Once Multiple (WORM) type, which provides for the disk to be intialized once, and the information to be written once only and read many times using the magneto-optical effect.

This standard specifies
- definitions of essential concepts;
- the environment in which the characteristics shall be tested;
- the environments in which the cartridge shall be operated and stored;
- the mechanical, physical, and dimensional characteristics of the case and
of the optical disk;
- the magneto-optical characteristics and the recording characteristics for
initializing the disk once, for recording the information once, for reading
it many times so as to provide physical interchangeability between data
processing systems;
- the format for the physical disposition of the tracks and sectors, the error
correction codes, the modulation method used for recording, and the
quality of the recorded signals.

In accordance with ANSI procedures and NCITS, which require a five- year review of approved standards, OMC recommends this standard recommends this standard be reissued, without change.
