New Standards Group Aims To Solve Software Safety And Related E-Business Problems
Developers, Users Urged to Attend May 24-25 Meeting in Washington, DC
Washington, DC May 3, 2001 "A software failure brought down the Osprey and it could bring down e-commerce." This is how John L. Hill, Sun Microsystems’ Standards Manager and convener of a technical committee to address software safety, system reliability and related electronic business issues, characterizes the importance of the new committee’s work.
All interested parties are invited to the May 24-25 meeting, which will cover opportunities and requirements for worldwide infrastructure standards development related to e-commerce transactions. The meeting of the new committee, called V3, will be hosted by the Department of Defense and occur under the auspices of the National Committee for Information Technology Standards (NCITS), a Standards Development Organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute:

"Participation in standards activities of NCITS Subgroups such as V3 is open to all directly and materially affected interests," notes Kate McMillan, director of the Secretariat for NCITS. Although there is an annual fee of $800 to establish voting membership on an NCITS technical committee, "it costs nothing but your time to share your concerns and expertise at the meetings," says McMillan.
